The Art of Asking
Better Questions
Lecture Series with J.R. Briggs
January 17-18, 2026
This January the entire parish is invited to come together for a special lecture series with J.R. Briggs, author of The Art of Asking Better Questions. Rather than offering a variety of J-term classes on different topics, we’ll gather together to explore how the questions we ask of God, ourselves, and one another, can deepen our faith, strengthen our relationships, and shape how we live. Join us as we hear from J.R. and rediscover how good questions can transform relationships, leadership, and our spiritual growth.
SESSION ONE
The Art of Asking Better Questions
Saturday, January 17, 2026 | 5:00 - 6:30 p.m.
In this interactive session we’ll explore the four levels of questions, the difference between good questions and great ones, the ways question-asking enhances how we interact with God and others, and unpack several ridiculously practical ways we can improve our question-asking ability.
SESSION TWO
The Soul of Jesus’ Questions
& The Questions of Your Soul
Sunday, January 19, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.
Jesus asked over 300 questions in the Gospels alone. Why? He knew the way we learn best is to participate with and experience the truth, and the best way to do that is to ask questions. In this session we’ll explore the most important question Jesus ever asked: one that every person must wrestle with.

“There is nothing less interesting than an answer without a question and yet all too often we are guilty of rushing to offer answers rather than patiently asking questions and listening to the questions that are on the hearts and minds of our neighbors. I know of no better guide for becoming a better question-asker than J.R. Briggs, and I can’t wait for us to learn from him during J-Term 2026.”
