Redeemer Men's Fellowship exists to invite men deeper into practices of Gospel Formation so that they might become a missional presence to their families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and city. We use the 7 Questions & Practices and apply them specifically to men:
STORY
What story do men tend to believe about themselves and how does the Bible offer a different, more compelling story for men?
Are we, as men, reading the Bible every day - seeking to allow it to re-narrate our lives?
IDENTITY
How is male identity deformed in our culture? How does the Gospel offer a new identity for men in Jesus?
Have we received our adoption as beloved sons of our Heavenly Father? Are we living with security and freedom from a place of sonship?
BELONGING
How do men develop deep, meaningful friendships (or not) and how might the church become a place where the Gospel fosters a healthy brotherhood of men?
Who are our closest male friends? How often do we spend time together? Do we live or work in close proximity? Are we confessing to each other? Are we encouraging each other? Do we have eyes to see the other men around us who are isolated and lonely?
VIRTUE
How do men grow and mature? What destructive habits plague men and how does the Gospel offer men a new set of redemptive habits?
To what extent has digital technology invaded our lives? Have we taken up practices of silence, solitude, fasting, sabbath rest, financial giving?
CONTEXT:
What is it like to be a man in Richmond, VA? What is it like to be a man in Western Culture in the 21st century?
Our culture and society is deeply confused and conflicted on what a man should be. We seem to agree on what he should not be (toxic, angry, violent, etc.), but what should he be? What is the unique role and place for an adult man in society?
VOCATION:
What role does work play in a man's life? How is work either idolized or degraded? What does it mean for the Gospel to transform the way men approach their work?
What makes a job good? With more work happening online, how does a man bring his physical body to bear on his work? Is there any good work to be with our hands? How do we create work opportunities for men who are unemployed?
IMAGINATION
How do social media, streaming platforms, architecture, music, and other art forms shape our imaginations and create a vision of the good life? How does the mystery of faith re-order our imaginations and help us to desire the Kingdom of God?
Sight, hearing, taste, scent, touch… how are we stewarding our senses? Are we carefully curating our imaginations so that we learn to love what is lovable and hate what is evil?
