SUNDAY WORSHIP AND PRAYER

During the Time of Coronavirus

PREPARE

  • Set aside 1 hour of uninterrupted time.

  • Choose a good location in your home, a living room or around the kitchen table.

  • Light a candle.

  • If you have very young children who will not be able to engage, consider choosing your time of worship during their nap time or after bedtime.

  • If you have young children who may be able to engage with part or all of the time, tell them ahead of time and think about some things they might do while you listen to the sermon and discuss it. (Craft projects like coloring a picture, writing a letter to a neighbor, building a bible scene with legos or blocks, etc.)

  • All of the content for the liturgy (text and video) is below. We recommend that you play the video on a device where the content is viewable and hearable to everyone gathered.

FAMILY PRAYER

(Taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019)

IN THE MORNING

Leader:
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth your praise. [PSALM 51:15]

People:
Create in me a clean heart, O God, *
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, *
and take not your holy Spirit from me.
O give me the comfort of your help again, *
and sustain me with your willing Spirit.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
[PSALM 51:10-12]

READ: Romans 8:18-39 aloud.

LISTEN:

SING: Listen and sing along.

[Singing together:]

MY HOPE IS BUILT

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

His oath His covenant His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

[Singing together:]

NOTHING TO FEAR

When you pass through the waters
I will be with you
And the depths of the rivers
Shall not overwhelm
When you walk through the fire
You will not be burned
I am the Lord
I am the Lord

And there is nothing to fear
Nothing to fear
There is nothing to fear
Nothing to fear
For I am with you always

In the depths of your sorrow
I wept beside you
When you walked through the shadow
I drew you near
Yesterday today tomorrow
Always the same
I am the Lord
I am the Lord

What can separate you from my perfect love?
What can separate you from my perfect love?
What can separate you from my perfect love?
Do not fear
Do not fear
Do not fear

[Listening together:]

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

The Lord is my shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd
I shall not want

He leads my soul by the still waters
In the green pastures I am restored
Though I may walk through the dark valley
Of the shadow of death I will not fear
For you are with me
Your rod and your staff comfort me

Goodness and mercy they will follow me
All of the days all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever and ever

INTERCESSORY PRAYER [all kneel]

  • For our church.

  • For our neighbors.

  • For our city.

  • For our country.

  • For our world.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED [all stand]

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER [all kneel]

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

THE COLLECT

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day: Defend us by your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin nor run into any danger; and that, guided by your Spirit, we may do what is righteous in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

COLLECT FOR THE TIME OF CORONAVIRUS

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Great Physician, who healed the sick, cured the blind and deaf and raised the dead, and who throughout all history holds dominion over disease and death: Arrest, cure, and eradicate the Coronavirus COVID-19, heal those who have been afflicted, and comfort those who have suffered due to this scourge; that those who suffer may know your healing heart and hand, that those who are anxious or burdened may know your comfort and your peace that passes understanding, that the watching world may know your sovereign authority, [prevailing] power, mercy, and grace, and that all may come to know and worship you; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

When you are finished, extinguish the candle, thank each other for their prayers,
and return to your work with glad and grateful hearts.

*Note: a list of vestry nominees will be distributed via email this coming week.
