SUNDAY WORSHIP AND PRAYER

During the Time of Coronavirus

PREPARE

  • Set aside 1 hour of uninterrupted time.

  • Choose a good location in your home, a living room or around the kitchen table.

  • Light a candle.

  • If you have very young children who will not be able to engage, consider choosing your time of worship during their nap time or after bedtime.

  • If you have young children who may be able to engage with part or all of the time, tell them ahead of time and think about some things they might do while you listen to the sermon and discuss it. (Craft projects like coloring a picture, writing a letter to a neighbor, building a bible scene with legos or blocks, etc.)

  • Resist the impulse to multi-task. When you are praying, listening, and singing - let it be the only thing you are doing.

  • All of the content for the liturgy (text and video) is below. We recommend that you play the video on a device where the content is viewable and hearable to everyone gathered.

FAMILY PRAYER

(Taken from the Book of Common Prayer 2019)

IN THE MORNING

Leader:
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth your praise.
[Psalm 51:15]

People:
Create in me a clean heart, O God, *
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, *
and take not your holy Spirit from me.
O give me the comfort of your help again, *
and sustain me with your willing Spirit.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
[Psalm 51:10-12]

READ: Luke 15:11-32 aloud.

LISTEN:

SING: Listen and sing along.

[Singing together:]

WE WILL FEAST IN THE HOUSE OF ZION
Sandra McCracken / CCLI #7041364

We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things, we will say together
We will feast and weep no more

We will not be burned by the fire
He is the LORD our God
We are not consumed, by the flood
Upheld, protected, gathered up

In the dark of night, before the dawn
My soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long?
Oh God of Jacob, be my strength

Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed
You are the Faithful one
And from the garden to the grave
Bind us together, bring shalom

[Singing together:]

HOW DEEP THE FATHER’S LOVE FOR US
Stuart Townend / CCLI #1558110

How deep the Father’s love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

[Listening together:]

WILL YOU JOIN ME AT THE TABLE?
Halie Commeau, Jeff King, Paul Zach

Will you join me at the table?
Come and celebrate my boundless love
See the feast has been prepared
Taste the bread and the wine
O my child, O my child will you come?

Since the day you left
My child I have been waiting for you
Waiting for you to come home
No matter what you’ve done
No matter how far you’ve gone
I welcome you with open arms

My dear elder child
Everything I have is yours
There is abundance in this house
My love cannot be earned
No need to strive, I freely give
So come welcome your brother home

INTERCESSORY PRAYER [all kneel]

  • For the peace of the whole world, and for the well being and unity of the people of God.

  • For the faithful ministry of our Parish, our Diocese, our Province, and the global Anglican Communion.

  • For the good and fruitful proclamation of the Gospel in our city and in the world.

  • For our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith.

  • For our city and nation, for those in authority, and for all in public service who serve the common good.

  • For all who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity.

  • For all who have departed this life in the certain hope of resurrection, in thanksgiving, let us pray.

  • For all other needs that weigh heavy on our hearts and all blessings for which we are grateful.

Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for the sake of Jesus Christ, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED [all stand]

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER [all kneel]

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

THE COLLECT

O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, you have brought us safely to the beginning of this day: Defend us by your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin nor run into any danger; and that, guided by your Spirit, we may do what is righteous in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

COLLECT FOR THE TIME OF CORONAVIRUS

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Great Physician, who healed the sick, cured the blind and deaf and raised the dead, and who throughout all history holds dominion over disease and death: Arrest, cure, and eradicate the Coronavirus COVID-19, heal those who have been afflicted, and comfort those who have suffered due to this scourge; that those who suffer may know your healing heart and hand, that those who are anxious or burdened may know your comfort and your peace that passes understanding, that the watching world may know your sovereign authority, [prevailing] power, mercy, and grace, and that all may come to know and worship you; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

When you are finished, extinguish the candle, thank each other for their prayers,
and return to your work with glad and grateful hearts.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

VESTRY NOMINEES

Click here to view your 2020 vestry candidates. Voting will be conducted on Sunday, March 29. Every Redeemer member can vote for two candidates. Please prayerfully consider whom to vote for.

MAKE ROOM CAMPAIGN

We want to MAKE ROOM for more of our neighbors to join what the Lord is doing in our midst. In order to do this, we need to expand our space in two strategic ways:

  1. OPEN THE BALCONY—We need to add glass panels to the balcony railing in order to make it safe for both adults and children to use. [This will add 126 seats to the sanctuary.]

  2. FRESHEN THE BASEMENT—We need to paint and re-furnish the basement so that our Redeemer Kids ministry can use it for kids spiritual formation during the Sunday service, and so everyone can use it for fellowship time after the service.

LENTEN MORNING PRAYER

During the season of Lent, we invite you to join us online to pray the Daily Morning Office in the Book of Common Prayer. New videos will be uploaded each Wednesday for your use. Click here for this week’s video.

A NOTE FROM REDEEMER'S JUSTICE AND MERCY COORDINATOR

While the BEST way to love our neighbors right now is to stay home, there are efforts across our city to support those who are most at-risk right now. Many of our Missional Partners work with families and individuals who are food-insecure, elderly or ill, and those who live on very minimal incomes (not to mention those that are finding themselves suddenly out of work). Wherever you find yourself during this uncertain time, there IS a way you can reach out to care for our neighbors.

Click here to find both individual and family options to serve, some of which involve volunteering and some of which can be done with your little ones right from your table at home. Let's use this extra time at home to still extend the love of Christ to our city. Please email me if you have any questions or would like more information. Be well, friends.
